Welcome to Bay View Cottage in Scenic Portmahomack
Bay View Cottage is a 19th century cottage in the lovely seaside village of Portmahomack. It has very recently been extended and completely renovated, and has fantastic views from the back garden, living room and balcony. Portmahomack is ideal for those who want a relaxing holiday with lovely scenery, but it also offers golf, walking and watersports for the more energetic! Because Portmahomack sits in a bay of the Dornoch Firth, it faces westwards over the Firth (unusual for a village on the east coast!). The back garden and balcony of Bay View face over the bay and enjoys a lot of sun and lovely sunsets over the water.

Our facilities
Bay View Cottage is very comfortable and equipped to a high standard. The house was built in the 1850s but has just been completely renovated and extended. On the ground floor there are 3 bedrooms (2 doubles and a twin), bathroom, toilet, utility room and back door to a small sheltered back garden with lovely views.

Upstairs is a lovely living room and kitchen/dining area. The new kitchen is well equipped and has an electric cooker, fridge/freezer and dishwasher. There is a dining table for 6. The living room is comfortable, and has a multi-fuel stove. There is a TV and wireless broadband. The views which give the cottage its traditional name of Bay View are wonderful from the living room. If you’re feeling lazy, you can just sit and watch the comings and goings at the harbour, the beach, the birds, sometimes even dolphins, and the occasional waterskier or windsurfer.

Step through the patio doors from the living room out on to a spacious balcony with decking, and the views are even better – stretching 180 degrees over the beach, the harbour, and across the Dornoch Firth to the hills of Sutherland. From the balcony there is an external stair down to the back garden and patio area.

The cottage is bright and cheerful and is decorated with the seaside in mind. It is very comfortable at any time of year. Heating is by electric storage heaters keeping the house warm all year round, and you can also use the multi fuel stove.

Electricity, bedding and towels are provided.

Pets are welcome by arrangement if they are well behaved!

Our Highland Location and Things to Do
Bay View Cottage is located within the village of Portmahomack, Easter Ross, in the North of Scotland, 9 miles from Tain and 40 miles from Inverness. The cottage sits on an elevated position above the sea front, yet is only 2 minutes walk from the harbour and the sandy beach.

Portmahomack enjoys a beautiful crescent shaped sandy beach in a sheltered bay, and “The Port” also has a picturesque harbour, golf course, a pub (Castle Hotel), a village shop, the renowned Oyster Catcher restaurant, churches, village hall and tearoom, a football pitch, and childrens’ playgrounds. The area is of archaeological interest and The Pictish Discovery Centre in the village is excellent.

There are lots of walks in and around the village, or out to the Tarbetness lighthouse or along the coast from nearby Rockfield village.

Young children and the young at heart of all ages will love the sandy beach and the litte rock pools at the far end of the beach.

For golfers, there is a nice 9 hole golf course just 300 yards from the cottage, with daily or weekly green fees. There are also more challenging courses nearby, including Tain (15 minutes away) and Royal Dornoch (25 minutes).

Portmahomack is ideal for sea fishing and there is also fresh water fishing nearby. Bird watchers find lots to look for, both around the village and also on the cliffs on the other side of the Tarbat peninsula.

For the really energetic the bay is good for windsurfing and waterskiing.

Outwith the village, there are lots of places to visit nearby – for example Tain and Tain Museum, Glenmorangie Distillery, Dornoch, Falls of Shin and the Harrods centre, Cromarty (by road or ferry), Croick Church. If you want to go further afield you could go to Lochinver, Ullapool, Strathpeffer, Helmsdale, Castle of May (the Queen Mother’s residence) or even a day trip to Orkney is do-able from Scrabster on the north coast.

Finally, although we can’t guarantee good weather all the time, Portmahomack enjoys high levels of sunshine and the lowest rainfall in the country! A lovely part of Scotland.
